San Antonio Man Held on $200K Bond After KCSO Interdiction Stop Turns Up 3.6 Ounces of Cocaine

KERRVILLE, Texas — A San Antonio man is sitting in the Kerr County Jail on $200,000 in bonds after a Kerr County Sheriff's Office traffic stop turned up roughly 3.6 ounces of cocaine, bagged and ready for sale, capping what the Sheriff's Office describes as a months-long trafficking investigation.
Daniel Joseph Hinojosa, 44, is charged with Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams — a first-degree felony in Texas.
According to a release from KCSO, the office's Special Operations Division, working alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety, developed information indicating Hinojosa was trafficking cocaine into Kerr County. Investigators identified a vehicle associated with him and brought in the Sheriff's Office Criminal Interdiction Unit.
Interdiction deputies located the vehicle and pulled it over. Hinojosa wasn't behind the wheel — he was riding as a passenger. The driver gave deputies consent to search, and that search turned up about 104 grams of cocaine concealed inside the vehicle, prepackaged in several individual baggies.
Hinojosa was arrested and booked into the Kerr County Jail. The Sheriff's Office did not say when or where the stop took place, did not identify the driver, and did not say whether the driver faces any charges.
"Our interdiction team continues to work every day to rid the streets of Kerr County from illegal narcotics," said Sheriff Larry Leitha. "We will continue to send the strong message to drug dealers – don't come to Kerr County to do business. Whether home-grown or traveling here from elsewhere, our Office will continue to fight the illicit drug trade. KCSO investigators continue to do strong work on behalf of public safety in Kerr County."
What the charge carries
Under Texas Health and Safety Code § 481.112(d), manufacturing or delivering — or possessing with intent to deliver — between 4 and 200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 substance such as cocaine is a first-degree felony. Under Texas Penal Code § 12.32, a first-degree felony is punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
A criminal charge is an accusation, not a finding of guilt. Hinojosa is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
