City of Kerrville and Kerr County Distributing Sandbags at Hill Country Youth Event Center Until 6 P.M. — Will Resume Thursday Morning
The City of Kerrville and Kerr County are handing out sand bags at the Hill Country Youth Event Center, 3785 Highway 27 — 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. to noon Thursday, 10 bags per household, first come first served while supplies last.
City of Kerrville - Hill Country Youth Event Center Drive Through
KERRVILLE, Texas — The City of Kerrville, in partnership with Kerr County, is handing out bags of sand to local residents at the Hill Country Youth Event Center, 3785 Highway 27. The first window is open now.
Distribution began at 2 p.m. Wednesday and runs until 6 p.m. It resumes at 7 a.m. Thursday, October 1, and continues until noon, as supplies last.
The limit is 10 bags per household. Bags are first come, first served, and distribution continues during the scheduled hours only until supplies run out.

What to expect on site
The city asks residents to review the map released with its announcement for the designated pickup locations, and to follow the posted signs and staff directions on arrival. Those collecting bags are asked to use caution around vehicles and loading areas, and to give staff room to help with loading.
Why the bags are out today
Kerrville sits inside the Weather Prediction Center's excessive rainfall outlooks for both Wednesday night and Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio briefing and the Day 1 and Day 2 outlooks issued at 11 a.m. CDT Wednesday. The second round, Thursday into Friday, is the one forecasters are least certain about, and it is the one that puts Kerrville in the higher of the two risk categories.
Sand is for shallow water working its way in around doors, garage openings and low thresholds. It does nothing against moving water on a road. If a crossing is running, the depth cannot be judged from a vehicle, and a gauge reading is not a substitute for looking at the creek.
